One of the rules of Hardcore is that Greenies cannot join maps currently in Hardcore for any reason. However, Mimic exists as a warp for Greenies+ so they can still play these maps without violating the rule.

Structure of Mimic[edit]

View of the room that houses most Mimic maps

After warping to the area, the player can enter the giant TNT that leads to a long obsidian room. In this room, the first 10 main Hardcore versions are separated by number, each with their own path. Along the paths are the maps contained in that hardcore version, and at the end of the branch are challenge signs to play each sub-version of that Hardcore as it was designed and a brief explanation of the philosophy behind the changes the hardcore version(s) brought.

After running out of space, a new Mimic area was created for Hardcore version 11.0 and beyond. This area can be accessed by either clicking the teleport sign near the Mimic starting area or going through the portal at the end of the main obsidian walkway.

The starting area with the first ten main Hardcore versions is a modified version of TNT Spawn. The second area with Hardcore 11.0+ is a modified version of Desert Spawn.

Mimic Maps and Challenges[edit]

All maps located in Mimic are separate copies of the actual maps that were in Hardcore, with their own mapcodes that contain "mimic-" at the start. For example, Jiga's Claymaze, the original, has the mapcode "jig", whereas the Mimic version uses the mapcode "mimic-jig". Mimic maps are not deleted, replaced, or updated to match the original map when finished. This leads to situations where Mimic is the only way to play or discover some maps. One common reason, as is the case for many old maps like Glowstone Labyrinth and Heaven Parkour, is that the original map was removed from FFA and did not carry over to Mount Minr from The Valley. This can happen to newer Hardcore versions as well, with maps that either broke or were pulled from FFA such as Miner's Millions and Gebul. Earlier versions of some maps used in Hardcore were also kept as their own mimic version, such as Old Prismarine Green and Elusion Classic.

Challenges to play each Hardcore version using solely Mimic maps also exist, and they are named by the version and sub-version number (e.g. "Hardcore 8.1 (Mimic)"). These challenges have their own glass boxes in between maps like the original Hardcore versions did. Scripts are used to transfer the player to the correct map after arriving at each box. Because some maps have extra functions that they need, such as leading to a loopback for Lava Maze in Hardcore 8.0, there are extra signs contained within some Mimic maps that checks the player's current challenge for this functionality.

The title cosmetic "Hardcore" exists for beating all challenge sub-versions for the first ten main versions of Hardcore (i.e. Hardcore 1.0 to Hardcore 10.2). No cosmetics currently exist related to Hardcore challenges for versions 11.0+.

Updating Mimic[edit]

Because updating Hardcore takes priority, the creation of a Mimic version of a map can come long after the original was moved to Hardcore. This is usually the result of maps that have heavy use of scripts, such as Jump For Joy. In the same vein, the scripts for Mimic maps are entirely separate from the scripts of the real versions, using their own namespaces for scripts if it is complicated enough.

Trivia[edit]

  • The only map to not have a Mimic (that should have one) is The Magic Tower.
  • The gold blocks in the Mimic warp that give the "Hardcore" title will return an error message to unqualified players stating the earliest Mimic Hardcore challenge version the player has not beaten. This will only return the lowest number Hardcore version that is not beaten, so players with multiple unbeaten Mimic challenges will only see one Hardcore version listed.
  • Many maps were considered Hardcore staples, and as such are listed in several Mimic version branches. Some examples include Aquarium, The Big Egyptian, and Wolly Mammoth.
