City Spawn
City Spawn is a server spawn used from January 1st or 2nd 2018 to October 2019. It was used after Minty Spawn but before Frozen Spawn.
Layout
City Spawn is broken up into four quadrants, with each direction leading to different areas: Parkour, Puzzle, Maze, and Hardcore. The three map directions contain sections for pure, mixed, and FFA+ maps. For the puzzles area, puzzles, adventures, and searches were grouped together. The Hardcore branch required blues to, at the time, get 35 Points to enter.
There are two recommended map signs near the central area. For parkour, Factory, Walk In The Park, Mineco, and Space Jump were recommended. For mazes, Blitz, Fire & Ice Maze, and Wonderful Wonderful were recommended. Towards parkour, a new maps board stands that contains the latest 7 maps before switching to Frozen Spawn: Summer Springs, Tulip Tulip Tulip, Lookout, City Commute, Buzzin', Speedrun Trials, and Cave Collapse.
The city has several landmarks aside from the map paths.
- Cornerstone Park, with a miniature FFA Airship flying above it. On the airship are warps to the old airship area and FFA+ Temple.
- A quartz building containing The Casino.
- Gray buildings which housed the Events and Challenge areas of this spawn.
- A kaddekes chicken stand.
- The Tower of Misfortune and the Tower of Secrecy.
- An extra room on the lapis building for The Museum.
Spawn Maps
City Spawn had the most secret spawn maps out of any spawn at four. The main spawn secret is City Spawn Head Hunt, which has become the main way to access City Spawn and requires players to find all 31 players in the spawn area. There are still three other maps that are secrets in the area.
Several of the buildings in this spawn also house parts of the FAQ Quiz, as the revamped version was built during City Spawn's use.
Spawn Variants
There is only one variant of City Spawn: Corrupted City Spawn. This spawn variant was used during Purple Comet III & IV.
Spawn History
This spawn was initially one of the spawns made for Spawn Competition 2016, placing second to win $10. The winning spawn, Minty Spawn, was made the server's spawn mid-2016. Over the year following, staff were discussing improvements to the new player experience and decided that adding map storage to spawn would be a big improvement, which would be impossible with Minty Spawn due to its use of teleporting portals. Initially, the plan was to create a new Laboratory Spawn to replace it, but it was ultimately decided to retrofit City Spawn into a spawn with map hallways. City Spawn was made the server spawn January 1st or 2nd 2018.
During City Spawn's use, it received iterative updates. It was the first spawn to receive secret questlines, the Arcade (known as the Casino at the time), and a Challenges area. The FAQ Quiz was also revamped during City Spawn's use, with several of the questions being built into unused building areas. The Valentine Event was also hosted in the Events section of this spawn.
In 2019, the Spawn Competition 2019 occurred to update the spawn with a new aesthetic. Frozen Spawn was the winning spawn, replacing City Spawn in October 2019.
Trivia
- This spawn was the only one to provide a way to revisit the FFA Airship and FFA+ Temple after they became unused.
- The Hardcore box visible above the center of the spawn was used during Hardcore versions 11.0 and 11.1.
