Basics[edit]
What is Minr?[edit]
Minr is a map hoesting server, hosting Minecraft adventure maps that all players can play. Most content on the server falls into three major categories:
- Parkour
- Maze
- Puzzle
For a more in-depth tutorial on how Minr works, see the Tutorial page.
Does the server block certain mods?[edit]
Mods work on a whitelist system - if the player has a mod installed that is not on the whitelist, they are immediately kicked from joining the server. To view a full list of allowed mods on the server, visit the Mod Whitelist page.
How do I play maps?[edit]
Maps can be joined by running /play and clicking the GUI option for the map type desired. This will take you to a hallway with pure maps (i.e. maps solely based on one type of gameplay) on one side and mixed maps on the other. Right clicking any map sign with [Join ???] will bring you into the map.
For more experienced players, or players that know the name of the map they want to join, running /join Insert Map Name will take them directly to that map without needing to go through spawn. For example, if the player wants to join Factory, running /join Factory will take the player directly there.
How do I return to a checkpoint?[edit]
Running /kill or /die will kill you and bring you back to your checkpoint.
How do I go back to spawn/the lobby?[edit]
Commands such as /spawn, /lobby, and /hub all bring players back to spawn. Running /play will also bring up the GUI for going to a specific map area as well that teleports to a sub-area of spawn.
I'm stuck. Can I get a hint?[edit]
Answer sharing between players with different amounts of progress on a map is not allowed on Minr, which also extends to hints. This is to allow Points from maps with gameplay types other than parkour to have values comperable to parkours.
How do I see my current map?[edit]
To get your current map, run /map current. To see another player's current map, run /map current view Insert Player Username.
How do I view the server's rules?[edit]
The server's rules are listed on the Server Rules wiki page.
Can I play with an alternate account?[edit]
No. Alternate accounts are not allowed on the server. Account swapping (the practice of logging into someone else's account to get past a gameplay section) and sharing accounts with multiple people are also not allowed.
Who do I ask if I am unsure of something?[edit]
Players with dark green and orange names are staff members. They are good players to message if you cannot find the answer to a question you have about Minr.
[edit]
The server has three main websites and/or social media connected to it:
- The server has a Forums at https://forums.minr.org. This is mainly used for major server announcements, map submissions, and as a place for discussions to not get buried in server chat or Discord.
- The server has a Discord server at https://minr.org/discord. This is mainly for player discussion outside of Minecraft and for announcements such as when a Beep Test is starting or for when a map is published. Players will have to go through a verification process before being given access to most channels.
- The server has a Wiki page (which you are currently at). The Main Page is accessible here.
Ranks and Hardcore[edit]
What are the different ranks on the server?[edit]
There are five major server ranks:
- White Rank is the default rank.
- Blue Rank is the first unlockable server rank. To unlock it, players must obtain 100 FFA Points and beat at least five maps that are Moderate (yellow) difficulty or higher.
- Green Rank is the second and final unlockable server rank. To unlock it, players must beat Hardcore. These players can also make maps for the server.
- Moderator Rank is a staff rank. Players with this rank can perform chat moderation and have a few other tools.
- Administrator Rank is also a staff rank. Players with this rank can perform most actions on the server and are tasked with running the server itself.
For more information on the different server ranks, visit the Ranks page.
What is Hardcore?[edit]
Hardcore is the name of the server's ultimate challenge meant to test the player's perseverence, integrity, and trustworthiness before giving them build rights. Hardcore is made of a large number of maps of all types that the player must get through to reach the end. Upon beating Hardcore, players must make a Green Application on the Forums and have their logs checked to make sure they didn't cheat.
Hardcore is unique in that its structure and restrictions, such as limited food, are more complex than other challenges featured on the server. For a full breakdown of Hardcore's structure, visit the Hardcore page and check the first image.
Will I lose progress by leaving Hardcore?[edit]
No. The checkpoints for FFA and Hardcore maps are saved differently, which means that Hardcore progress will not be overwritten if the player starts playing regular maps. Run /checkpoint return ffa to use the FFA checkpoint, and /checkpoint return hardcore to use the Hardcore checkpoint.
Maps and Challenges[edit]
What are Points?[edit]
Points are an indicator of how many maps a player has beaten. Players are awarded points the first time they beat a map, but not on other completions of the same map. Map difficulty also plays a role, with harder maps awarding more points. The more points a player has, the more maps they've beaten.
Players can view their points by running /points. They can also see how many points other players have by running /points Insert Player Name.
For more information regarding points, see the Points page.
What are the Map Difficulties?[edit]
Map difficulty is sorted in reverse rainbow order, with white maps being the easiest and black maps being the hardest. Each difficulty awards a different number of points in a pseudo-quadratic trend shown in the table below.
| Difficulty Point Rewards | |
|---|---|
| White | 1 |
| Blue | 2 |
| Green | 4 |
| Yellow | 7 |
| Orange | 12 |
| Red | 18 |
| Black | 25 |
How do I set a checkpoint or finish a map?[edit]
Minr uses Map Signs to have players join maps, set checkpoints, and finish maps. All map signs have square brackets around the second line, such as [Checkpoint]. Unlike some servers, clicking a checkpoint sign will respawn the player to a predetermined position when they die instead of the player's current position.
How do I see what maps I've completed or have left?[edit]
To see a list of your completed maps, run /map list completed. To see a list of your uncompleted maps, run /map list uncompleted.
Is my map progress saved?[edit]
Generally, most maps do not save progress made in them if a player leaves the map. Some maps, especially newer maps of higher difficulties, do have progress savers scripted into them which players can use to return to a specific point in the map. How frequently progress is saved also greatly varies from map to map, with some maps like Odysseus saving only when an area is completed to maps like Skullerful which saves the completion of every puzzle. Asking in chat or searching the map's name on this wiki and checking if the infobox has a progress saver mentioned will tell you if the map has a progress saver or not.
Why are most maps called "FFA Maps?"[edit]
FFA stands for Free For All, meaning players of all ranks can join them. This is in contrast to Hardcore maps, which only Blue Rank players can play due to being in the Hardcore Challenge to prevent answer sharing. Some maps are also called FFA+ maps, which mean they are considered by the community to be a high quality map on the server.
For more information about this, see the FFA page.
What is Speedrun Score?[edit]
Speedrun Score is a point system which rewards points based on what place on the leaderboard a player has for a map. Getting first rewards players with 500 Speedrun Score, and the Score obtained from a map drops off dramatically the lower on the leaderboard a player is. As an example, tenth place gives the player only 28 Speedrun Score. The lowest placement that still awards speedrun score is 251st place.
For a more in-depth breakdown of Speedrun Score, visit the Speedrun Score sub-page.
How do I see a map's times/leaderboard?[edit]
Players can run /map times Insert Map Name to see all player times for a map. Alternatively, /leaderboard maps times Insert Map Name will function the same via the leaderboard command.
What are Challenges?[edit]
Challenges are sets of maps a player must play in a row to complete. Challenges are typically harder than individual maps in FFA and can come with their own modifiers such as Limited Lives or No Sneak. Challenges can be joined with the /join command or by clicking a challenge sign in spawn and complete upon beating the last map in the challenge.
For more information about and a list of challenges, visit the Challenges page.
What is the difference between Standard, Repeating, and Total Challenge Points?[edit]
Some challenges are not static sets of maps, which are the Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Challenges. These dynamic challenges allow players to obtain more challenge points by waiting for the challenge to refresh with new maps before beating the challenge again. To help players distinguish whether challenge points were obtained from a reoccuring challenge or not without making them worthless, challenge points are split into two different kinds. Those from static challenges are called Standard Challenge Points, those from reoccurring challenges are called Repeating Challenge Points, and challenge points from both of these are added to get Total Challenge Points.
What do Points, Speedrun Score, and Challenge Points unlock?[edit]
Points are used to unlock three different things on the server:
- 100 Points is one of the two requirements needed to unlock Blue Rank.
- 1000 Points is needed to play the Odyssey Challenge.
- All points on the server are needed to unlock the Completionist Cosmetic Trail.
Challenge Points and Speedrun Score currently do not unlock anything on the server, and are mainly for bragging rights. Players with the topmost amounts of these points are displayed in the Challenges section of Spawn.
Miscellaneous[edit]
Does the server have Beep Test?[edit]
This server hosts Beep Test periodically on the weekends. Players can be notified of when a Beep Test is happening by opting into the Beep role on Discord.
Does the server have cosmetics?[edit]
The server has three main kinds of cosmetics: titles, trails, and hats. Hats are the most common cosmetic type to obtain, and trails are the rarest. Most cosmetics are obtained by competing and performing well in Events, making many cosmetics limited time rewards. Cosmetics are not obtained by paying real money.
For more information regarding cosmetics, as well as a complete list of them and which ones are accessible, visit the Cosmetics page.
Does the server accept donations?[edit]
Minr does not accept donations, and will always be hosted free of charge or reliance on donations from players playing on the server.
What are the crown heads in several of the server's maps?[edit]
These crown player heads are called Artifacts. When clicked, they give a piece of trivia about Minr. Finding and clicking a large number of Artifacts will reward players Cosmetics and Challenges.
For more information, visit the Artifacts page.
