Troll Kingdom is a mixed puzzle map by Kaddekes. It rewards 7 FFA Points upon completion, and can be joined directly using “/c join trl”.

General[edit]

Gameplay[edit]

Troll Kingdom places the player in a large, dark, and moist cave that houses a wooden troll village. The player must explore the cave in a non-linear puzzle/search with parkour to make their way to the surface of the cave. The parkour in this map can be potentially fatal or it may reset the player's progress by a large amount.

Aesthetics[edit]

The gigantic cave purposefully feels barren and large to make the player feel tiny compared to the cave, with the wooden troll village to give a sense of scale to the cave. The cave has a very natural feel to it as hand-crafted by kaddekes. The vines are well placed aesthetically and gameplay-wise, they tease the player at showing them the natural light from above the surface, leaving them wishing they could climb the vines to the surface.

Challenges[edit]

This map is featured in four challenges: 2013 Assortment, Hexa, Hexa Chapter I: Legacy, and The Path of Heroes.

Origin[edit]

Original article written by kaddekes

Troll Kingdom started from the vision of having an open world where exploration is key. Moving away from the classic tunnel, square room, tunnel, room, ... setup. The big parts of the cave were cut out using Worldedit, but it had to be made looking natural by hand. And making it look natural was the big challenge.

There are 2 separate main paths with extra branches up. So you can do the map multiple times without having to do much of the same. Leading to different experiences from player to player.

The troll village was put in to give a certain goal and meaning, also to provide with a little "safe haven" from the darkness and to add a scale to the whole build. It is supposed to make you feel small, even indoors.
