The Novice is an adventure map with maze, parkour, puzzle, and search elements by AppleAtEden and Kosmo93 that rewards 7 FFA Points when completed. Use "/join nov" to join the map directly.

General

Story

The player is a monk seeking to be inducted into the Monastery.

Gameplay

The Novice features a dialogue and quest system. To progress through the map, the player has to complete several quests that require talking to NPCs and clicking on items to interact with them. Several NPCs also change their dialogue depending on different conditions.

Aesthetics

The map begins in a small pub meant to teach the main dialogue and inventory system the map has, made of mostly dark oak blocks with a gray carpet floor and a stone brick fireplace. The player is then taken to the first major section, the castle town, which has houses made of spruce and dark oak with stone bricks used occasionally for decoration. The outer wall of the castle is made of stone bricks with some dark oak slabs.

The second and final major area, The Monastery, has rocky mountain faces leading up to it with spruce trees and a small altar. The path to the monastery opens up into a large pond, with a stone brick bridge leading to the monastery itself. The monastery contains a courtyard, a main church building, and several rooms surrounding the center.

This map is featured in 4 challenges: 2021 Assortment, Glorious Expedition, Hexa Chapter III: New Heights, and Hexa.

Trivia

• The Novice is famous for being the first map on the server to majorly use chatscripts (i.e. the ability to click chat dialogue). Maps that used chatscripts before it were incredibly rare, and none used the system to the same extent as The Novice did.
• Several of the villagers in the starting town are server players.
