Content Warnings

This map contains uncomfortable themes about death, war, depression, and manipulation. Player discretion is advised.

Story

After using the Trojan Horse to end the Trojan War, Odysseus and his crew embark on a long expedition to make their way back home to Ithaca. This map is inspired by Homer's The Odyssey and Jorge Rivera-Herrans' Epic: The Musical.

There are several sections throughout the map which give the player the option of being merciful or murderous. How much the player chooses either option changes the ending to the map.

Gameplay

Odysseus is one of the longest maps on the server, split into eight different sections across 40 middle checkpoints.

The first section is in Troy. The player parkours from the Trojan Horse into the castle. Upon entering Troy, the player needs to find all 70 Trojan Soldiers and deal with them by capturing or killing them to leave a 3D maze.

The second section is at Polyphemus Island, which tasks the player with solving a puzzle to find the blade needed to exploit the cyclop's weakness.

The third section is the first Poseidon fight, which requires the player to survive his attacks and escape.

The fourth section is in Circe Island. The player must first talk to Circe and then search for the three pieces of Circe's heart to turn the crew back into humans to leave.

The fifth section is the Scylla crossing. The area begins with the player needing to choose six men to sacrifice to successfully reach the stone wall, requiring parkour to get to each of the men. Falling into the water is instant death. After surviving an attack from Scylla, the section becomes half heart parkour for several checkpoints.

The sixth section is the Charybdis whirlpool. The player must parkour through several checkpoints to reach the heart of the sea-eating monster.

The seventh section is the second Poseidon fight. The player must reach the top of all four pillars to activate ice walls to freeze Poseidon. Each of the pillars has a timed parkour section that must be completed to get two thirds of the way to the top. The pillar platforms have different glazed terracotta in them used to distinguish pillars.

The eighth section is in Ithaca, which tasks the player with finding a bow and six arrows around the home to kill the suitors. After that, the player must beat one final parkour section to reach the end of the map.

Aesthetics

Due to the map being split into several different sections, the aesthetics between sections vary greatly.

Troy is built in a large valley, with Odysseus and his men contained in the Trojan Horse made of blackstone bricks, deepslate tiles, and gray glazed terracotta. The area outside the gate of Troy has several large trees, a storage building, and a grassy expanse dotted with stones, mosses, and lanterns. The Troy castle has a central courtyard full of vendors, with the maze itself comprised of different colored sections with storage rooms spread among them.

Polyphemus Island is a sparse island with sandy beaches, trees, rock piles, a stone walled sheep pen, and a cave with a campfire containing the cyclops Polyphemus.

The first Poseidon fight takes place in a water-filled area full of stained glass panes.

Circle Island is an island full of azalea trees, crops, plants, and a sandstone building where most of the nymphs, pigmen, and Circe are located.

The Scylla crossing begins with Odysseus' ships being battered by the giant monster Scylla, with tentacles made out of blackstone, obsidian, and netherite blocks. The giant stone wall is made of various stones, mosses, and vines, with a couple of ledges the player uses for parkour.

The Charybdis whirlpool is a build inspired by Dragon Soul: Maelstrom. The whirlpool is a massive area full of water made out of stained glass that kills the player when touched. There are several dripstone spikes creating the teeth of the beast, and the surrounding wall is made of sculk, coal blocks, and black wool.

The second Poseidon fight takes place in a large body of water made of blue, cyan, and light blue stained glass. Each of the pillars are made of deepslate bricks, polished deepslate, and deepslate tiles. The platform centers are made of blue, gray, cyan, or light blue glazed terracotta depending on which tower is being ascended.

The Ithaca section takes place on a giant grass-filled area with a large cherry tree in front of Odysseus' home. The home is made of mostly sandstone with acacia highlights. The final parkour section takes place in a black concrete box with black candles and platforms reminescent of the different prior sections of the map.

Challenges

This map is featured in 4 challenges: 2025 Assortment, A Shared Fate, Mortal Reminder, and Hexa.

Trivia

  • The stands in the courtyard of Troy reference different server players.
  • After using Slice of Life as a test to get used to scripts, the creator used that experience to create many of the complicated sequences that appear throughout the map, such as the Poseidon fights.
  • Looking down from checkpoint 21 at the tentacles spells out "Scylla," the monster's name.
