General

Story

While the main route through the map does not contain much story, there are hidden lore books and entire hidden areas in the map that the player can discover.

Gameplay

Serene features several different areas, each with their own type of gameplay.

• The map begins with a navigation section before starting with The Miner riddle.
• The second section requires finding the way forward.
• The third section requires digging through a digsite to find the route forward.
• The fourth section needs the player to solve a painter's puzzle to progress.
• The fifth section requires finding items for Christine on a pirate ship.
• The sixth section is about a farm windmill puzzle.
• The seventh section is a maze navigation area across green tower buildings.
• The eighth and final section is a maze through stone ruins.

Aesthetics

The map takes place across a large forested plain with several different types of buildings, each usually contained in their own sections of the map. While some areas look drastically different to others (especially the desert section), there is common use of green blocks and stone brick ruins seen in several sections of Serene.

• Serene contains significant amounts of optional accessible areas that players can explore or lounge in throughout the map, including several places along the main route.
• The swim route after the digsite was initially open on release, allowing players to ride a boat along a river section to the next area.
