Snowstorm is a pure maze map by Ajdj123321. It rewards 12 points upon completion, and can be joined directly using “/c join sno”.
General[edit]
Gameplay[edit]
The player spawns into a snowed-in cave alongside other tribe members who speak if the player walks by them. The player is a member of a tribe where supplies are running low after they got snowed in. The player must complete two mazes to get back to the village and send a rescue party to save the rest of the tribe.
The first maze out of the two in Snowstorm, involves the player venturing through a large 2D-Maze, with very low visibility. At the start of the maze right after the start room, the player has a choice of 20 corridors to explore to try and find a way out of the maze. The player may use the ice blocks to see through into other paths to gain an idea of where the exit may be.
The second maze in Snowstorm is a 3D-Maze that is noticeably more difficult than the first maze. This maze involves multiple intertwined and winding corridors that the player can go upwards or downwards using ladders. The maze is well-designed, with the whole area being very condensed, this makes the player confused on if they are making any progress, and leaving them with a sense of confusion throughout the dimly lit corridors in the inside of the mountain.
Aesthetics[edit]
The first maze is based upon the theme of the snowed-in cave and features lapis blocks, snow blocks, ice blocks, and redstone torches to create a dimly lit-snowy cave theme. In the second part of the maze, it is based in the internals of a mountain, in contrast to the first maze. The blocks used in this part of the maze incorporate this theme by using a mixture of stone and snow blocks.
Challenges[edit]
This map is featured in three challenges: 2013 Assortment, Odyssey, and Hexa Chapter I: Legacy.
Origin[edit]
Article written by Ajdj123321
Snowstorm's original premise stemmed from the question of 'How could one convey helplessness?' through the constraints of Minecraft. This question branched out into the question of 'How could one write a dark and more tense story in a game where most of the world is bright and colorful?' The answer is Snowstorm: A story of a pack of traveling hunters trapped in their igloo and are running out of food.
With minimal lighting and a labyrinth-like design, Snowstorm was a 4-point course before being moved into Hardcore in summer 2013.
The gameplay of this map consists of venturing through 2 primary sections:
-A 2D blizzard
-A 3D mountain/cave system (With assistance from PacksofPages for design.)
In may 2014, this map was taken out of HC, and the path of ice was being replaced with something else. Although it had technically been accepted to FFA+ before it's arrival in HC, it went through a second nomination before being added to FFA+. It can be found in the first/left maze room, and is worth 12 points.
Trivia[edit]
- Voted into FFA+ in the June 2014 ballot, alongside other maps, for example -154.
- Snowstorm is built directly underground one of Aj's other maps, 4 Corners Dojo.
