General[edit]

Story[edit]

The player is a traveler entering the Spirit Garden to meet Qing Long. To stand before Qing Long, however, the player must gather more wisdom in the Spirit Garden. The player gains approval from Master Kiansoo, Izumi no Ban'nin, and Kaeru before being judged by Qing Long and ultimately receiving the dragon's approval.

Gameplay[edit]

Yokai is a mostly no frills parkour. Falling anywhere in the map usually requires dying to reset to the player's checkpoint, but most jumps are easier than 3+1's or 4b jumps. Performing every jump in one continuous run typically makes sections of Yokai easier due to momentum than taking jumps one at a time.

One distinct element of the map is it's length, with nine middle checkpoints spread throughout the parkour. Checkpoints have signs on the path pointing to them, and these typically appear at the start or midpoint of sections.

There are three dev-intended speedrun routes or skips throughout the map. The first is in checkpoint 3, where the player can do three faster but trickier bamboo jumps to save time. In checkpoint 8, a similar bamboo skip can be done to avoid entering a building on the main route. The final and most obscure skip is in checkpoint 9, which allows the player to skip the first half of the checkpoint's parkour if they can do a triple neo -1 jump. The most distinct checkpoint is the fifth, which requires performing an extended slime jump with a speed boost.

Aesthetics[edit]

Yokai is a massive build focused on organics. The first half of the map features the statue of Master Kiansoo and a Japanese inspired landscape with cherry trees on mountains and torii. The second half of the valley features large tulips, pagodas, and the head of the dragon Qing Long.

Challenges[edit]

This map is featured in six challenges: Family Vacation, 2022 Assortment, Enlightenment, Sightseeing 2022, Hexa Chapter 3: New Heights, and Hexa.

Trivia[edit]

  • This map was one featured in Cursed Sightseeing, an event dedicated to showcasing out-of-bounds or map escapes in maps. Using the speed from checkpoint 5, it was barely possible to perform a large neo to escape the map. This has since been patched.
