Ashes is a mixed parkour map with maze by Bird_Obsession. It rewards 1 FFA Point upon completion, and can be joined directly using “/c join ash”.

General

Gameplay

Ashes begins with a choose-your-path challenge where the player parkours along crimson slabs, blocks, and stairs as well as basalt piles to cross the section. These jumps are not too difficult, but the stairs can complicate these jumps. The one mid-checkpoint is located at the end of this section. The player then parkours across warped wood floating platforms up and around the upper section. These are mostly standard jumps. The player then drops into a short soul sand pit section with standard jumps up to the other side of the small pit. The player then takes a short walk to a section with short standard jumps on blackstone around the room. After taking a short drop, the player is met with the maze. The maze is a short 2D maze with both wide and narrow pathways. The maze isn't very large, however it does not have many identifying features, giving it difficulty. After finding the exit, the player ascends a tight column. The player finally takes a large drop down through a Basalt Deltas biome to the end sign.

Aesthetics

Ashes primarily uses 1.16 nether blocks. The map opens in a large basalt area with basalt and blackstone making the walls. Crimson wood and basalt piles facilitate the parkour. Soul lanterns hanging from chains are used as a primary light source. Warped wood variants cover the upper section. The map then transitions into a soul sand pit with blackstone and basalt walls. This small room is accented with crimson and warped vines and roots. The next room is decorated similar to the soul sand pit. Lanterns hanging from chains light the top half of the room. The player is then met with the maze. The maze walls are made from basalt and blackstone. The floor is covered with lava, hidden behind stained glass, skulls, smoke pillars, and redstone. After the maze, the player ascends a short blackstone column with crimson wood as blocks for parkour. The player takes a final drop and is met with a large natural basalt valley.

Challenges

This map is featured in 3 challenges: White Walkers 3, 2020 Assortment, and Hexa Chapter II: The Renaissance.

Trivia

  • Ashes was the second nether based map to use the 1.16 nether blocks, with the first being Nether Quest.
  • Ashes was originally a lot shorter, ending at the end of the first room (past the warped parkour). It also had an additional checkpoint halfway across the warped parkour. The maze and 2 extra rooms were added after the map was considered too short for FFA.
  • Ashes was made with the intention to be the easiest white map. This was changed when the map was extended.
