General

Story

The player begins their journey in an office where they've volunteered themselves to trial a new sleep aid experience, Nightmare Fuel™, which has the added "bonus" of granting them vivid nightmares. Dare to Dream™.

Gameplay

Nightmare Fuel is an adventure map with a fusion of puzzle, search, maze, and parkour elements (often, each area is a mix of two or more styles) whose fundamental difficulty lies in the psychological terror of being stuck in all of your worst nightmares. You progress linearly from nightmare to nightmare over the course of two nights, attempting to survive the trial and wake up. A couple of less commonly seen sub-categories of gameplay are also found here, including "Button Button" and dropper mechanics.

Aesthetics

This map features several different distinct areas modelled to emulate reality with a hellish, uncanny twist, including: a collapsing school with a demonic prison in its basement, a frozen lake with various crashed vehicles, a mall filled with various stores that are out of business, and other areas containing a full mix of vibrant texturing, custom head blocks, and decorative banners.

Challenges

Nightmare Fuel is currently featured in three challenges: Paranormal Panic, Journey's End, and Hexa.

Trivia

  • Just after the intro sequence, there is a long, dark hallway referred to as "The Hall of Nightmares," which includes a showcase of phobias and nightmares that greenies and members of the staff team volunteered to build, setting the tone for the challenges ahead.
  • An Easter Egg lies just off the obvious path at a particular point in the map, containing an NPC who shares random trivia about the map and a few puns whenever clicked.
