The Great Sphinx

At the very beginning of the Summer of 2014, Zatharel and Mr_Destructo69 started collaborating to create a massive Egyptian-based map. The first thing they built was a Sphinx, made entirely out of smooth sandstone. It took them a few weeks until we could get it to look like they wanted it to, and they were very pleased with what they had made.

Later that Summer, the headdress was replaced with gold/lapis lazuli blocks, but we also wanted to make the entire thing block smooth sandstone instead of cut sandstone, so that same block was added to resource parkour.

After abandoning the initial map, Zatharel submitted this to the museum because they couldn't find any other use for it. On Wednesday, 4th of February, this map was added to the museum.

The Sphinx is currently surrounded by a few pyramids, which were made as part of the same project the Sphinx was supposed to be included in. The pyramids are 100x100, 200x200 and 32x32.

Some facts about the actual Sphinx in Giza: - The Great Sphinx of Giza is an immense stone sculpture of a creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. The greatest monumental sculpture in the ancient world, it is carved out of a single ridge of limestone 240 feet (73 meters) long and 66 feet (20 meters) high. - Some scholars believe that the Great Sphinx originally had a beard. Pieces of this beard discovered by excavation are in the British Museum in London and the Cairo Museum. - The Sphinx sits in a shallow depression to the south of the pyramid of the Pharaoh Khafre (also known as Chephren) at the west bank of the Nile River near the city of Cairo.
