The Countdown template is for creating timers that display on wiki pages, with the main use being for ongoing events on the Main Page.

Most of the variations are self-explanatory. Year, month, day, hour, and minute dictate when the event starts (remember that the server uses GMT!), the event displays the name of the event when the countdown is running, the duration is how long the event will run in seconds, the eventstart message displays while the event is running, and the eventend message displays when the event is over.

As a note, the only time there is an active countdown is for before the event. On-going events unfortunately do not indicate when they will end.
